Theme 2: Gender, Stereotypes and Women's Rights
In honor of March 8th, International Women's Day, we talked about gender, stereotypes and societal expectations. What are we taught about gender? What kind of messages do we receive? Where do we learn them?
We read two different authors who talk about societal expectations around gender, they explore what ideas society has about how to be a girl, women, boy and man and how constricting those can sometimes be. With new generations, how are these ideas being challenged?
International Women's Day grew out of women challenging expectations around gender and demanding something more: more freedom, more opportunity, more respect and equal rights. How do we see March 8th being celebrated today? What are women in Oaxaca and Mexico calling for? What do we think?

Theme 1: Community
There are many types of community, community based on where we live, our interests, our identity and groups that we're a part of. Map out the different community you feel a part of. Which ones do you feel most connected to? Least connected to? What do you like about your community? What do you wish you could change?
All of us are part of the community of Oaxaca, whether we've lived here our whole lives or moved here from somewhere else. What represents Oaxaca to you? What does Oaxaca look like? Smell like? Sound like? Taste like?
